A STUDY OF THE TRANSLATION PROCEDURES OF SOME BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC TERMS IN "Bisnis dan lnvestasi" COLUMN OF KOMPAS DAILY NEWSPAPER (SEPTEMBER TO NOVEMBER 2000 EDITIONS)

The primary function of laguage is a means of communication, manifested either in spoken or in writter. The communication it selft may occur in various forms. Newspaper, as one farm of communication media, have a significant role in providing information for the readers. In presenting various kinds of information, newspaper often uses many specifics terms. the use of those technical terms is necessarily made to meet the specific articles. However the jargon usage may raise problem in the process of message transimiting because nor all readers understand can be measured by the extent to which the readers understand the terms contained in the writing. In this study, English as the language of the business and economic jargons, can be a barries for the readers to catch the message of the articles. This can be solved by translation, which function as a medium between English, teh SL and Indonesian the TL
